Indian Developments
Broad markets displayed a bearish momentum for the week ending July 24, 2026, with the benchmark Nifty 50 declining 2.33% to close at 23,767.45. Heavy corrections were visible across large - cap and financial segments, as the Nifty 100 dropped 1.92% . Mid-cap and small - cap segments also faced selling pressure, with the Nifty Midcap 150 contracting by 1.23% and the Nifty Small cap 250 sliding 2.23% .
INDIA VIX jumped by 6.69% over the week, climbing from 13.15 to settle at 14.03. This sudden spike indicates rising market volatility and heightened defensive positioning among market participants.
Sectoral Developments
The Winners: Defensive and consumer -driven pockets managed to stay in the green. Nifty FMCG led the gainers with a +0.62% rise, followed by Nifty Auto (+0.44%) and Nifty Media (+0.39%).
The Laggards: Financials and interest -sensitive sectors bore the brunt of the weekly retrenchment. Nifty Private Bank plunged - 4.32%, closely followed by Nifty Realty dropping -4.02% and Nifty Financial Services shedding -3.69%.
